It was an event conceived and executed by the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI). The aim was principally to bridge the gap between investors, funds providers and the researchers as well as innovative entrepreneurs. After a research and development result and other innovative efforts are painstakingly put in to a company, the business at this point need to get more of financial resources to grow the business after the foundation has been laid. Some times both the Researchers, Inventors and most of all investors don’t even know the existence of one another which is why the FMSTI conceived to put such an event together. The event had sub themes as: Application of STI to build a knowledge driven sustainable Economic Development, Converting knowledge to wealth through application of industry and services demand driven R&D programmes, it also considered this theme as “Creating enabling environment for Development of Robust STI ecosystem in Nigeria. Last but not least, the organizers considered the theme strategic alliance between FMSTI and the business community and implementation of the Presidential Executive Order No. 5.
The cream de la cream of the industries and relevant stakeholders attended the event. Banks, Capital market operators,Multinationals and captains of industries all attended.
In his welcome address, The Honorable Minister of state Science ,Technology and Innovation Barr.Muhammed Abdullahi said he was delighted to welcome the Investors,Bankers, Capital Market Operators and many more to the maiden meeting between the STI community and distinguished Nigerian Entrepreneurs.He described the meeting as a desired destiny of strategic partnership and harmony within the STI ecosystem. Barr.Abdullahi further said the FMSTI is looking forward to leverage the wealth of experience in business towards better application of science research and development outcomes of value addition in Nigerian enterprises “We have come to solicit your indulgence for better working relationship”. While delivering his Keynote address, the Honourable Minister of Science,Technology and Innovation H.E.Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said that a time has come for Nigeria to stop depending and consuming what other Nations are producing. According to him,” We must be both producers and consumers of the products of scientific research and innovation. Dr.Onu urged leaders in the private sector to use science and technology for a vibrant private sector. The Minister further said the present administration has led the way in ensuring that our economy does not to depend entirely on commodities,but rather depend on knowledge that is innovation driven. The minister added,We have prepared the ministry to serve the nation for not just this decade, but for a very a long time to come. According to him, the ministry has changed its vision,mission statements,logo, core values and critical success factors. He added that ,”all these efforts and more have been made to help create jobs for our young people,fight and defeat extreme poverty,rebuild middle class,strengthen the economy,create wealth for both individuals and the nation which is why the exhibition and investors forum became inevitable”.The Director General/CEO of NBTI Engr. Dr. Mohammed Jibrin, Zonal Director of Zone 1, Dr Julie Momah and her Centre Managers represented the Board and displayed an array of quality products and services from the stables of the NBTI.
The Director General/CEO was the first among the 17 CEO’s of the FMSTI to speak to the audience on the policy trust of the Technology Incubation Programme be ; He enumerated the areas in which entrepreneurs are involved in the Programme and how they have done and are doing so far. He also urged the investors to willingly invest in order to grow these companies more and better the economy of Nigeria. Dr. Jibrin echoed that Nigeria has the capacity to become on of the world super powers by producing what the country needed. Some select successful Entrepreneurs made presentation to inform the investors on their products and companies. Of very enormous importance was an opportunity to show case products to the stakeholders by the NBTI and that was well exploited.
